Do You Know Why A Mission Statement For Estheticians As An Entrepreneur Is Very Significant?

Welcome, beautiful business builders! If you are a beauty entrepreneur or an esthetician looking for a perfect approach to creating a long-lasting company, try not to skip this essential component: "The Mission Statement of Your Business."

In this blog post which is inspired by inspired by Kari Jo Patterson's episode from the Esthetician Podcast. We will dig deep into the details of why your company's mission statement for estheticians isn't just a fluffy sentence for your website—but it is the heartbeat of your whole brand.

What Is a Mission Statement and Why Is It So Crucial?

The purpose of your company is defined in your mission statement. It should provide answers to basic questions such as:

1.     Why are you showing up every day?

2.     Who are you serving?

3.     What transformation are you helping your clients achieve?

If these questions are unclear, your company is like a boat without a paddle. No matter how hard you work, you won't get anywhere.

Kari Jo emphasizes this perfectly when she says, “If you don’t have it clearly defined, it’s basically like you’re trying to row a boat nowhere.”

A Humble Beginning: Learning the Hard Way

Kari Jo tells a funny and relatable early life story. Before investing their tax return funds in her esthetics venture, her husband requested to see a mission statement and business plan. Like a lot of new business owners, she looked up something similar on Google: “To provide the most relaxing treatment in town while promoting results and friendships.”

She laughs when she thinks back on how awkward and ambiguous it was. But the lesson here is necessary: you don’t need to get it perfect from the start, but you do need to begin somewhere.

Why a Mission Statement Matters More Than You Think

Kari Jo came to understand how her lack of clarity impacted every aspect of her business as her journey progressed.  Because she lacked a compelling "why" for her actions, everything was disorganized, including her decision-making, marketing, and even client service.

And she struggled even more when things got hard, which they always do.  At one point, she was facing the difficult prospect of leaving the treatment chair, was expecting a child, and had no income.  Despite everything, she spent $10,000 on a mentor because she at last realized her purpose and its significance. She was able to persevere because of her inner clarity.

Your Mission Guides Your Team Too

Not just the owner should have a compelling mission statement.  It serves as your team's compass.  Your company culture will be chaotic without it. Kari Jo makes a great analogy in sports: Picture a football team whose goal is unknown to everyone.  Some players believe the goal is to tackle, while others run left and kick right. It's a mess.  And when your employees are unaware of the mission that is what occurs.

Do you want a quick test? Go ask one of your team members what your mission statement is. If they can't recite it, you've got some work to do.

Why Most Estheticians Struggle to Create One?

It can be frightening to draft a compelling mission statement.  The majority of estheticians attended beauty school rather than business school.  Therefore, coming up with a clear, inspiring, and well-thought-out statement can seem overwhelming.

The good news is that writing one doesn't require a marketing degree.  All you have to do is ask the right questions of yourself.

How to Craft a Mission Statement That Actually Works

If Kari Jo were sitting down with you as your mentor, she’d have you do this exercise:

1.     Why does your business exist?

Dig deep. What are you passionate about? Are you helping women feel confident? Are you providing safe, natural skincare? Get to the heart of your why.

2.     Who are you serving?

Be specific. Who is your ideal client? What are their needs and challenges? What makes you the perfect solution for them?

3.     What is the impact you're making?

Your mission should be about more than just making money. What transformation are you helping your clients experience?

Once you have these answers, you will have the perfect foundation for a mission statement that inspires you and aligns your team.

Make It Short, Memorable, and Powerful

Your mission statement should be compelling enough to inspire while remaining brief enough to commit to memory.  For example, it is comparable to an elevator pitch.  If you have ever watched Shark Tank, you will know that successful businesspeople can sum up their operations in one or two sentences with confidence and clarity. The same should apply to your mission statement.

You want everyone to know exactly what you stand for, including customers, employees, and even random people you meet at Starbucks.

Build a Culture around It

Once you have got a solid mission statement, don’t keep it in a drawer or hidden in a training manual. Kari Jo shares a genius way to make it part of your company culture: She randomly walks around and asks her staff to recite the mission. If they can, she gives them a $5 bill or a Starbucks card. It’s a small incentive with a big impact. It reinforces the mission and keeps it top of mind. When your team can recite and believe in your mission, they become brand ambassadors. They’ll naturally start communicating your business values in how they serve clients, which leads to stronger relationships and more referrals.

In CONCLUSION: Your Mission Is Your North Star

In the end, we can conclude that your mission statement for estheticians is the lifeblood of your company, not just a sentence on your website.  It helps you stay focused when things are going well and grounded when things get difficult.  It helps you grow with purpose, hire the right people, and provide better customer service. It may be time to take a step back and get back in touch with your mission if your company feels chaotic or a little stuck.  Instead of waiting for everything to fall apart, get clear now and use that clarity to direct all of your actions.

For estheticians like you who are unsure of where to begin, Kari Jo provides free strategy sessions.  Because space is limited, make sure to check the availability.  You can achieve anything you set your mind to once you have a clear understanding of your mission.
